The ultimate aim of the Wadleigh Scholars Program (WSP) is to give minority and low-income students the opportunity to get the best education possible. The success of the Program demonstrates that the community can transcend obstacles and that a quality education is essential to the upward mobility of any people.

WSP continues to assist students who have the determination and desire to face and overcome academic challenges.

    Our mentors include alumni, educators and other professionals. They offer academic support, career advice, and personal development guidance. Their goal is to ensure that students not only gain access to top-tier schools but also excel in competitive environments.

    RECRUITMENT SCHEDULE

    PHASE 1: November – January

    Admission Recruitment Begins

    • Collect candidates/families information from prospective candidates – mostly 7th graders and some 8th graders.
    • Review candidate/family information by submission deadline (late JAN/early FEB).
    • Distribute WSP questionnaires to eligible candidates and parents/guardians based on the information gathered along with current and previous/current grades.
    • Invite selected prospective candidates and families to the Wadleigh Scholars Open House/Information Session.
    PHASE 1: February – March

    ABC Application & WSP Interviews/Test/Evaluation

    • Applicants begin the A Better Chance application.
    • Application responses are reviewed by the mentors
    • Applicants are interviewed in March
    • Applicants take an evaluation test in April
    PHASE 1: April – May

    Review, Test, Evaluate, Decide

    • Final responses are reviewed by the mentor for the A Better Chance application
    • The A Better Chance application is submitted by April 15th
    PHASE 1: July – August

    SSAT Prep & Writing Workshops/Assignments

    Summer session, SAO application introduction

    • Attend 4-week summer enrichment classes
    • Begin SAO profile, essays and parent statement

    Review conducted by mentors

    PHASE 2: September – December

    WSP Main Program Component Begins

    • WSP Scholars are matched with prep schools,
    • Complete SAO profile, essays and parent statement
    • Attend 12-13 weeks of enrichment sessions.
    • Take monthly practice SSATs and refine applications.

    Open houses, practice interviews, and financial aid discussions help prepare families for the final SSAT in December and the completion of the financial aid family application.
